Adam Goldfein takes on T-SPLOST (TIA)

WSB Radio Talk Host Adam Goldfein

WSB Radio (750AM Atlanta) talk show host Adam Goldfein spent 2 hours this Monday morning on the topic of the upcoming transportation sales tax vote July 31.  We can put Adam in the “NO” column.

Here is some of the info he is providing on his show…

Putting some of the T-SPLOST claims to the test

Is it a “one cent” tax? No, it will not cost only one cent. It is a 1% sales tax, so it will be one cent out of every dollar of sales.

Is this a 1% tax increase? No, it is a one percent SALES tax increase. Compared to all State taxes (Current sales, income, fuel, property, etc.) this will amount to a 10% increase in tax revenue. This figure does not include local or Federal taxes.

All the projects for Habersham County are intersection upgrades on Hwy. 365 except for a roundabout in Clarkesville, and that could be accomplished far more economically with a simple street light adjustment.
Just the property acquisition for the intersection improvements costs 10s of millions of dollars, and would take over 10 years to complete.
What about the widening of 105/441 near the new Wal-Mart? GDOT has had that on the table for over 20 years, and it isn’t on the TSPLOST list. Neither is anything else that would address local concerns.
I am sure whoever is selling the property for the proposed 365 intersection improvements would be pretty happy, though.

Thanks for posting. We have found that GDOT has sandbagged a number of projects pending the outcome of the vote. Be sure to tell everyone about the July 31 vote. Few people I talk to on the street know about it. Voter turn out is the key to defeating this tax! Make sure to visit and sign up.
